What is the CrimeTracer Chatbot?

The CrimeTracer chatbot is a natural language interface available in Advanced Search that allows users to run queries using plain English instead of traditional dropdowns or forms. It is designed to help law enforcement professionals quickly access relevant information using simple phrases.

What does the chatbot do?

• Makes it faster and easier to search your data without needing to know database structure or syntax.

• Converts natural language queries (like "Show me all incidents involving a red pickup truck and a white male aged 30 to 35 with brown eyes.") into SQL queries that are executed against the CrimeTracer database.

• Helps users locate incidents, entities, patterns, and context efficiently through conversational search.

How does it work?

The chatbot is powered by a leading large language model, configured specifically for law enforcement use cases within the CJIS-compliant CrimeTracer platform.

• It does not modify, delete, or alter any data.

It does not generate assumptions or conclusions about the data. All responses are based on the contents of the CrimeTracer database.

• It does not send data outside the CJIS boundary or log conversations outside the secure environment.

Does it change my data?

No. The chatbot only assists with query translation. It never modifies, deletes, or interprets data.

Can I turn off the chatbot?

Some agencies have not permitted the use of AI yet. Contact your CrimeTracer administrator to have your agency opt out of using the chatbot feature. Your agency administrator should send an email to crimetracer.support@soundthinking.com requesting to opt out.

Is the CrimeTracer Chatbot CJIS compliant?

Yes. The chatbot has been implemented with strict adherence to CJIS compliance requirements. The model processes queries within a secured environment, and no agency data is sent to external servers or used to train the model. Audit logs and data handling follow existing CJIS policies.

Who can use the chatbot within my agency?

The chatbot is available to licensed users of CrimeTracer. Role-based access controls ensure users can only query data they are already authorized to see within the platform.

Are queries logged or auditable?

Yes. All AI-generated SQL queries and responses are stored within a secure CJIS cloud environment and subject to existing agency retention and audit policies.
