Associations

The Associations tool is arguably the most powerful tool in the CrimeTracer application and most useful for solving complex crime. It enables you to extend your search capabilities to reveal associations among entities of your choosing. You can request to find persons, vehicles, organizations, firearms, locations, properties, phone numbers, documents, offenses, officers, or narratives that are associated with your point of interest, or multiple points of interest.

Note: For more complex associations, it may be helpful to use the Visualizer tool for a visual representation of your association results.

Finding Associations From Results
  1. Search for an entity such as a person using either Quick Search or Advanced Search. This example will find other entities associated with this person.
  2. From the results, click on the person of interest.
  3. At the top of the page, click on the gray Associations button. This will open the dropdown as seen in the image above.
  4. Clicking the + Associate With button on the bottom-right will add your person of interest into the "...associated with:" input.
  5. Under the "Show me..." prompt, select any entities you would like to find that are associated with your person of interest. Selected entities are shown in blue, non selected entities are shown in gray.
  6. Click the Find Associations button to see the results. The result set will include every entity associated to your person of interest three levels deep.

Note: By default, the page will only show 25 results at a time. This can be changed at the bottom of the page.

Finding Associations From Search Parameters

When only a description is available an association search can be performed on the search parameters using Advanced Search.

  1. Enter search parameters into the Advanced Search form.
  2. Click on the Associate With button on the top of the form.
  3. Click the Find Associations button to see the results. The result set will include every entity associated with your search terms.

Note: By default, the page will only show 25 results at a time. This can be changed at the bottom of the page.

Relevant state with Find Associations

When you add search terms to Find Associations you can include relevant state allowing users to narrow their search within a state.

You will see the state parameter in your search terms
